1.7225 / 42CrMo4
DIN 1.7225 / 42CrMo4 Steel is a common Chromium-Molybdenum alloy steel that usually used after quenched and tempered. DIN 1.7225 has better performance than 1.7220 steel due to the carbon and chromium content is higher. 42CrMo4 steel has higher strength and hardenability. This material also has high fatigue strength and good low-temperature impact toughness. The temper brittleness is not obvious.

Quenched and Tempered (+QT) of W-Nr 1.7225 Steel
1. Heat din 1.7225 steel slowly to 880°C;
2. Soak at this temperature then quench in oil;
3. Temper as soon as 42CrMo4 steel reach room temperature (20°C);
4. Heat uniformly to the suitable temperature of 560°C;
5. Withdraw the material from the furnace and cool in the air.
Annealing of 1.7225 / 42CrMo4
1. Heat the steel component carefully to 690°C;
2. Cool in the air down to 20°C.
Applications of DIN 42CrMo4 Steel
DIN 1.7225 steel is generally used in the manufacture of tools which has high strength requirements. This steel is good for large size and important parts,such as axle,gear,connecting rod,gear transmission,turbocharger gear,engine cylinder,spring,oil drill pipe joints and fishing tool. 42CrMo4 steel is sometimes used instead of the high nickel quenched and tempered steels.
